Why Must Stop Smoking?

Cigarette smoke has 4,000 different kinds of chemicals and 50 kinds of carcinogenic substances. And even though we know it is not good for the health, nicotine addiction, just like drug addiction is difficult to stop.
Smokers can have many health risks. They can reduce their life span by six minutes for every stick of cigarette they smoke which means they shorten their life for 2 hours everyday and the average life span for 5-7 years. Their heart and lung function deteriorates. Blood circulation dos not work smoothly because of carbon monoxide and poisonous gas. Smoking can make one get older very quickly and the skin become rough early.
Compared to non-smokers, smokers average life span is shorten to 4-8 years. Exercise and sexual capability also decreases. We can prevent 30% of cancers, especially lung, oral, larynx, urinary bladder, kidney and pancreas cancers if we do not smoke. Cigarette smoking can also lead to arterioschlerosis. The risk of heart diseases is increased and at the age of 40-50 smokers have three times more probability to die of heart attack than non smokers. The development of emphysema of the lungs or chronic bronchitis can be six times higher and the function of the lungs deteriorates. Even with minimal movements, it is difficult to breathe and exercise.
People with asthma, TB of the lungs and cold may be worsen and the recovery is slower. The ability of the blood to supply to air is impaired so even with a very little amount of work the body seemed to be tired. If smokers exercise, they have faster breathing and the percentage of being absent at work is higher. Cigarette makes the environment dirty. Smokers develop gingivitis and the teeth turn to golden yellow. Smokers do not smoke alone but make other people nearby pasive smokers and can lure friends and members of the family to fall into dangerous diseases. Children who live with a family members who is smoking can easily develop respiratory diseases, slow intellectual development and have higher tendencies to be smokers too when they become adult.
According to the announcements of the World Health Organization (WHO) there are 2.5 million people (one in every 13 seconds) who die of tobacco related diseases. In our nation, Korea, there are 23,000 smoking related deaths every year. The number is more than traffic accident related cases.
The most effective way to maintain one's health is to stop smoking. In order to increase the success rate of people who already develop withdrawal symptoms and cigarette craving is a regular consultation with the specialist. To stop smoking is the best gift to our love one's and the most effective way to save our family and neighbors.
